An all-platinum mounting is offered with diamonds that cost $6000 or more. A 10 power jeweler's loupe is included so that you may view your laser inscribed message. All diamonds include a GIA gemological analysis and report. All sales are backed by our 30 day unconditional money back guarantee.

More information on what's included with every diamond.

What is a certificate?

A certificate is a diamond grading report issued by an independent laboratory, detailing the diamond's weight, dimensions, color, clarity and cut. At American Diamond Wholesalers, all loose diamonds are accompanied by reports issued by the Gem Trade Lab of the Gemological Institute of America (GIA) or the American Gem Society (AGS). The GIA and AGS, whose standards are the strictest in the diamond industry, are the undisputed international authorities on diamond grading and gem identification. The GIA issues a Diamond Grading Report or Diamond Dossier. The AGS calls their report a Diamond Quality Document.

What is the difference between the grading reports issued by the GIA and the AGS?

The GIA Diamond Grading Report and Diamond Dossier detail all the individual characteristics of the diamond commonly known as the Four Cs. The Diamond Grading Report includes a diagram of the diamond indicating the type, size and location of distinguishing marks that determine its clarity grade. The Diamond Dossier, which is issued for diamonds weighing under 1 carat, does not include a diagram, but does include a laser inscription registry, which notes the unique GIA report number that has been laser inscribed onto the diamond.

The Diamond Quality Document, issued by the American Gem Society, while detailing the same variables that make up the Four Cs, uses a different grading system than the GIA and gives an additional grade with respect to quality of cut. This system uses a numerical scale from 0 to 10, 0 being the best and 10 the least desirable. The phrase "Ideal Cut" has been coined by the American Gem Society to describe a diamond that has earned a 0 grade in cut.

What is a gemologist?

The GIA offers a degree called Graduate Gemologist to those who successfully complete their course, while the AGS calls their degree holder a Certified Gemologist.

What is an appraisal and how does it differ from a grading report certificate?

An appraisal is a document that contains all the pertinent information about a diamond with respect to the Four Cs, but differs from a grading report in that it also includes its estimated retail or replacement value. An appraisal is required by insurance companies since the Grading Report Certificate or Diamond Quality Document does not indicate price or value. The GIA and AGS never suggest a retail value, nor do they grade mounted diamonds. If the diamond is set in jewelry, the appraisal also describes the precious metal that is used in the mounting.

At American Diamond Wholesalers, we offer an in-house appraisal on all GIA or AGS graded diamonds for your insurance needs. For finished jewelry and non-laboratory graded diamonds, we employ the combined grading and appraisal services of the International Gemological Institute (IGI). This laboratory examines set diamonds and furnishes their retail value. While we prefer the GIA and AGS for complete grading reports on loose diamonds, we find the IGI to be an excellent resource for providing basic grading information and for confirming retail value. The IGI is internationally recognized as the foremost appraisal organization in the diamond industry.

Are all certificates the same?

No. The GIA or AGS set the standard internationally for diamond grading. There are many laboratories in operation, but few adhere to the stringent standards as the GIA and AGS. And most importantly, not all of the certificates issued by other labs are as strongly regarded when a diamond is reintroduced to the market through resale, trade-in or reappraisal.

Also, be wary of in-house certificates unaccompanied by an independent 3rd party analysis. When outside of a controlled laboratory setting, bias toward one's own diamond may cause the gemologist to grade his or her diamond too liberally. The consumer's best assurance is an independent grading report, issued by an organization such as the GIA, AGS or IGI, which does not benefit financially from the outcome of the grading procedure.

What is American Diamond Wholesalers policy regarding Conflict Diamonds?

We do not buy or sell Conflict Diamonds.

How can I authenticate my diamond?

Your diamond will arrive with a GIA diamond grading report. This is a detailed analysis of your diamond from the industry's most reputable leader in diamond grading.

Is there an extra charge for laser inscription?

The cost of inscription is $75, and includes a free 10 power jeweler's loupe.

How can I view the laser inscription on my diamond?

Free of charge, we will send a 10 power jeweler's loupe so that you may view your inscription and share it with others.

How long does it take to receive my diamond?

Most orders ship in 48 hours or less.

Can the inscription be removed?

Yes. The inscription can be easily removed by having the girdle of the diamond repolished.

How do the range search options work?

In each setting range, you may specify an upper or lower limit, or both. Carat weight and Depth are entered with optional decimal point, tenth, and hundredth. All other numbers are whole numbers(no decimal). No fractions(e.g. 1/4) are allowed. In the Price range, the dollar sign and comma are optional. All prices are rounded to the dollar. When selecting a Depth range, remember that after setting an upper limit of 60, for instance, the range would not include 60.1 or above.

Is buying online with my credit card safe?

Purchasing online with your credit card is extremely convenient and very safe. American Diamond Wholesalers uses a Secure Commerce Server which works with Netscape & Internet Explorer Web browsers to encrypt credit card information as it is sent to our secure database. If you see the blue key or a closed lock at the bottom of your screen, you can order with complete confidence. Your purchase online is secure.

Despite concerns about using credit cards over the Internet, there have been no actual reports of credit card information being stolen online. In fact, with the use of encryption, your credit information is much safer than if your credit card leaves your possession, such as in a restaurant or at a gasoline station.

How much do you charge for shipping?

Your diamond will be insured and shipped overnight by FedEx, free of charge, within the USA. If you supply us with your email address, shipping notification will be automatically forwarded to you. Please remember that FedEx shipments can only be made to houses, apartments or businesses and cannot be made to P.O. boxes or (foreign or military) APO/FPO addresses. Registered mail is available as well.
